Best entry-level mirrorless interchangeable lens camera for the beginner in 2025
Small, easy to use, almost pocketable (in a jacket pocket it is), and what a great value! It’s a versatile camera for the beginner, with menus that help you learn photography on the camera! Scene modes, Art modes, AP (advanced photography modes), it’s all there, it even stitches panoramas together for you in-camera. This has all the advantages of a point and shoot, in a seriously nice and ergonomic retro body look, with interchangeable lenses. And there are soooo many Olympus/OM System lenses to choose from (most are small and very manageable)Behind all the ease-of-use menus and features, there is also the full set of manual settings for the amateur photographer. Great for selfies but also more serious work. You can definitely grow with this camera.I guess that is why this is Taylor Swift’s favorite camera (not kidding look it up), she goes with it everywhere.Love this when I run out and want to bring my smallest easiest to carry “kit”, that will always give me pics that are so much better than my iPhone 15 Pro.

    Great Little Camera!
I bought this camera for an international trip I recently went on as I wanted to get back into amateur photography. It was compact, light and it took quality pictures. I love the app as it makes it easy to transfer photos online, to your phone, etc. Overall, it was a smaller camera with some professional level features. I’m very happy with my purchase and it was a good value for my money.

Light, portable. Great image quality for the price point
Originally wanted the Sony ( per Wirecutter) which is out of stock.I was afraid this one wouldn’t arrive on time. Thanks to Amazon’s super speedy delivery! I bought this for travel, portability, convenience and picture quality ( at this price point). Doubt if it can match the quality of my Nikon D750 which is a full body DSLR camera but a pain to carry it around all the time. Waiting to compare after I get a smaller Nikon 50mm lens to see if this is worth keeping.I like that the you can change to more powerful low end or high end lenses. Perfect for hobby phographers for travel! Cheap plastic built dosent bother me as it’s convenient and more functional for travel.

So far so good, more later…
just wanted to communicate a quick message. not that i want to focus on negatives but these things jumped immediately as not so great at me when using the camera for the first time.for all of this i subtracted 1 star. From all i was reading i do expect that all other function perform as described.1. It said charging can be done through USB cable, so i was hoping that for long-term exposure (like astro photography etc) one can add an external battery to keep it going bit NO:”Even if charging is in progress, it stops when thecamera is turned on.”that is what the manual says and i checked it is true2. the EVF is activated by eye contact. basically the moment the EFV is darkened. the weird thing is when reviewing images on the LCD and then you look through the EFV to see more details etc the camera switched to the regular recording mode. to see the image in the EVF you have to put your eye on it and THEN switch to viewing mode.on all other Pen cameras i use the EVF-1/2 and it is switched by a button on the EVF which i like better.3. the battery door has no automatic lock when it is closed, you have to manually move a little slide. also different from previous Pen’s. i though it was broken.4. autofocus seems ok but have not directly compared to my EP5 and EPL9. once thing that bothered me on that older cameras was that they did not focus well on the moon at all which disappointed me a lot (that was with the 14-150mm zuiko).5. EVF: clearly the external EVF-1/2 have the advantage that they are articulate. meaning you can orient them 90 degrees up which is very convenient for many situations. now that would be great to do here too. or they could have added the port to use the EVF in addition when needed.update1:(2) i found out that the automatic switching of the EVF can be turned off with a button next to it – very good!Update 2, Jan 2 2021Did my first shooting outdoors. AF works very good compared to my epl9 and ep5. It even focussed very easily to the moon. The 2 dials on the top are very convenient to quickly change key parameters.I explored the HDR function a little but have not seen too dramatic impact. On my phone I use Snapseed for HDR and feel it has more impact on the image. But so far so good.I also played with the Art14,splash color, function and it is working well.More later2021 january update 2:tried the nightscape mode for the stars. everyone who has interest in that one probably knows the Pleiadies (see picture). this was taken handheld with Zuiko lens 40-150mm, not bad overall. the camera takes 8 frames with 1/10 sec each and combines then. outcome is not bad at all. to get the focus to work i had to point first to another brighter star and kept eh release button pressed half down when pointing then to the barely visible Pleiadies (this was in the city so no really dark sky). this scene mode does not allow for manual focus which would be nice.

Worth EM10 series, good street photography, hobbyists camera.
I own an OMD EM10 M2 for the past 3+ years, and it is a good companion for street, and hobby photography. I was waiting for 20MP EM10 models, and finally it arrived. There was a brief offer from Amazon on this camera body – black for $459, i immediately clicked it, i like silver, but its ok. The truepicVIII processor is amazing, 4k video, low light focus is much better, image stabilization is better, and once you focus, fhe focus stays even if you move the camera. USB charging is great, no need for the bulky charger. There is noteable difference in the picture quality, color, and contrast. Again there are many pre set filters available. All the features in palm size compact, you won’t regret. If you want a point and shoot like small camera, and convert that into a professional camera in a blink of an eye, then this is the one. I tried this with my 25mm, 45mm prime leases, and the pictures are amazing. It amplifies my street photography, and portraits. This is a pure delight hobbyists camera, under the budget.Compromises: Plasticiky compared to M2, look wise still my M2 silver is better. Need careful handling, i don’t think it will survive a drop on the floor. Menus are boring/monochrome, Video ok for starters. Dont know what is the future of OMD series, as Olympus is changing hands, but this camera will go for me another few years.

if you’ve research which camera to buy and already picked this one and is just debating whether to get it or not, I have no regrets after I use it. It’s very nice to use as a first time photography beginner moving on from phone.

Great size. Great pictures. I’ve already purchased 2 more lenses. I’m an amateur.

  8. MicLeg

Compact with good build quality. Great for travelling.
